Der Stachelpolyp bildet - wie die entfernt verwandten Korallen - eine Kalkkruste. Er lebt ausschließlich auf Schneckenhäusern, in denen ein Einsiedlerkrebs sitzt. Dies dürfte ein zerbrochenes Gehäuse der Wellhornschnecke gewesen sein.
